Jill Ellis is a winning soccer coach in America's history. She is now an executive at San Diego Wave FC. She was the head coach of USA's women's national team between 2014 and October 2014. She is an USSF Pro coach, and mentors the next generation of women coaches.

Jill Ellis established a mentoring program to support the next generation women soccer coaches. She is also the president of San Diego Wave FC, the newest club in the National Women's Soccer League. She will share with us her experience and insights in building a strong community and motivating people towards a common goal.


Ellis has been hard at work over the past year in developing the program, and soliciting donations. She will raise money to fund promising female coaches who otherwise would not be able to afford costly licensing programs. The mentors assigned to the women will give advice and build their professional networks. The program is expected to sponsor about three dozen women in its first year.

Jill Ellis hailed from a country where women couldn't play competitive soccer. Margaret Ellis was her mother and opposed to her daughter's participation. It was considered unethical to play soccer back then. As a teenager, she moved to Virginia to play soccer. She also helped lead her high school's soccer team to the state championship.

She holds a USSF Pro coaching license

Jill Ellis has been a coach for more than 20 years and has earned a USSF Pro coaching licence. She started her coaching career as a young player at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax. Later she went on to win the Under-21 Championship as well as the state championship with her team, Braddock road Bluebelles. She was also an All-American soccer player in college at William and Mary University. Ellis' playing days were in her twenties. However, she earned recognition as a coach.

Ellis has extensive sports management experience, in addition to her many years of coaching. Ellis has held many leadership positions, including that of the Development Director of the United States Soccer Federation. She was also an assistant coach for U.S. women’s national team, and coached women's youth soccer teams. Ellis was appointed interim head coach for the senior women's team in 2012. She was an interim coach for 2 matches in 2014 and holds a USSF Pro coaching certificate.
