Rose Lavelle, USWNT Midfielder of the Match

A highlight reel of talent, Lavelle has a creative vision for the ball. She made her senior international appearance in 2017 and won the player award against England. It is rare to find someone who can combine vision, speed, and creativity with the ball. Her play style is unique and requires artistic license.

Lavelle is a Cincinnati-born defender

Rose Lavelle, a Cincinnati-based soccer player. She began playing soccer at age 5 in the YMCA coed youth leagues. She didn't celebrate her first goal and smiled. She just kept going with the game. Later, she played for many local soccer clubs including Cincinnati United Premier Soccer Club. She also played college football at the University of Wisconsin.

Lavelle grew in Cincinnati and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. Later she was awarded a scholarship by the University of Wisconsin. She plays today for the Washington Spirit in NWSL. Neil Bradford, the Cincinnati Soccer trainer, was instrumental in Lavelle's discovery of her love for soccer.

Lavelle represented the United States women’s national team at both the junior and senior levels. She was named the Big Ten's top midfielder in November 2015. She later received a first-team all-American honor from the NSCAA. Lavelle also represented the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL W-League (2014 and 2015) as well the Seattle Sounders Women’s W-League (2015 and 2015). After graduating from college, Lavelle joined the Washington Spirit. Lavelle returned to Dayton in time for the 2016 Women's Premier Soccer League season.


She played for Wisconsin

Rose Lavelle won Big Ten's Midfielder Award of the Year in December 2015. She was also selected to the U.S. Women's National Team, but didn't make the game-day roster. She began to get frustrated. She felt like she wasn’t making the necessary progress and wasn’t ready for the rigors that came with playing for the national team. But she was able to break through with a meeting with Coach Wilkins.

Rose Lavelle plays soccer for the Badgers but is also an active participant in the university's community services programs. Rose Lavelle has been involved in Wish Upon a Badger Experience (women's soccer) and Thank-A-Thon (youth soccer clinics). She has also been the brand ambassador for Yuengling's premium light beer FLIGHT.

She is a vital member of the U.S. Women's National Team

Rose Lavelle is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. At just 15 years old, she became a vital member of the U.S. Women's National Team. She played at the SheBelieves Cup in the Czech Republic. Even though the USWNT was victorious in the game, they still outshot their opponents 18-6. Rose Lavelle was named Budweiser Woman-of-the Match.

Lavelle suffered an injury during a friendly match with Australia in June 2017. However, she was able to return to the USWNT in time for the final match. She was a brilliant player throughout the tournament. Her teammates and coaches recognized her as a breakthrough player.

Lavelle has participated in the World Cup for America. She made her World Cup debut against Thailand, but sat out the game against Chile. Later, she returned against Sweden to help the United States push its attacks.
