Morgan's future as a star player
Alex Morgan is an American women's soccer player. This season, she has scored 15 goals in 16 NWSL matches. She will be leading the U.S. team in Mexico to the Concacaf tournament this summer. The US has not played in this tournament since 2010, when it was held in Cancun. Morgan helped the Americans win a gold medal at FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 despite losing to Mexico in the semifinals. Morgan was also instrumental in scoring the winning goal against Canada in the London Olympics 2012.
Rapinoe's suit against the U.S. soccer Federation
In April 2016, five members of the USWNT filed a lawsuit against the U.S. soccer federation seeking equal pay for the same work. They alleged that they had been treated unfairly based on gender. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received the complaint. In May 2020, a federal judge sided with the federation, dismissing most of the players' unequal pay claims. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the appeal.
