Megan Rapinoe

After leading the United States to victory in the 2019 Women's World Cup, Megan Rapinoe won the Golden Ball as well as the Golden Boot. She is also a feminist who has been fighting for equal pay and a strong voice for women in soccer. She credits her Seattle Reign coaches, Lisa Harvey and Jill Andonovski, for the changes she's seen in the game.

Rapinoe's controversial sexuality doesn't keep her from playing the sport. But, her popularity has helped her fight to equal pay for female players. She was a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community. In fact, she was one the first white athletes in the country to kneel during the national song. This act inspired Colin Kaepernick’s protests against racism in American sport. Rapinoe was also an active participant in a lawsuit brought against the US Soccer Federation due to gender discrimination. In 2021, the case was settled.

Jerramy Stevens

Jerramy Stephens, US women's football goalie has been arrested for allegedly assaulting Hope Solo. The two were set to get married the day before the altercation. Police said Stevens was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault on Monday. Judge ruled however that there wasn't sufficient evidence to support the filing of charges. Prosecutors could still bring charges later, however, if they find additional evidence.

Hope Solo has concerns about Stevens' arrest. Stevens, the former NFL tight-end and U.S. female soccer team captain, was reported to have argued with Stevens’ family in 2014. Stevens was arrested, but the charges were dropped. The couple have been married for over ten years and are expecting twins in March 2020.
